Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup Chana dal
  • 2 finely chopped Onions
  • 1 tsp Red chili powder
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 tsp Kanda lasun masala
  • 2 tbsp Oil
  • 1/2 tsp Mustard seeds
  • 1/2 tsp Cumin seeds
  • 2~3 Dry red chilies
  • 7~8 finely chopped Garlic cloves
  • 10-12 Curry leaves

Instructions

  • Wash the chana dal well and soak it in enough water for about 2-3 hours.
  • Heat up oil in cooker.
  • Add mustard seeds and let them pop up.
  • Add cumin seeds and let them splutter.
  • Add dry red chilies, garlic, curry leaves and mix well.
  • You can use crushed garlic too.
  • Fry the spices for a few seconds.
  • Add onion and fry until ut gets nice golden color.
  • Add kanda lasun masala, red chili powder and mix well.
  • You can add goda masala, kala masala, varhadi masala or any stored masala in place of kanda lasun masala.
  • Add soaked dal along with water.
  • Add some more water and salt to taste.
  • Mix well and cook on medium heat until just 1 whistle.
  • Dal kanda is already.
  • Dal kanda goes well with bhakari or poli.
