Ingredients

  • 2 tsp Oil
  • 1 cup finely chopped Onion
  • 1 finely chopped Tomato
  • 1 tsp Ginger-Garlic paste
  • 1~2 chopped Green chili
  • 1/2 tsp Turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp Latur special Kala masala
  • 1 tsp Red chili powder
  • 1 peeled and chopped Potato
  • 1 cup finely chopped Fenugreek leaves
  • 1 cup Kolam rice
  • 1 tbsp Masoor dal
  • 2 cups Water
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 tsp Kasuri methi
  • 2 tsp Ghee

Instructions

  • Heat up oil in a cooker.
  • Add onion and fry until it gets nice golden color.
  • You can add sliced onion too.
  • Add tomato, ginger-garlic paste, green chili, turmeric powder, red chili powder and mix well.
  • You can use regular kala masala or garam masala in place of kala masala.
  • Add potato fenugreek leaves and mix well.
  • Fry for about just 2 minutes.
  • In a bowl take rice, masoor dal and mix well.
  • Wash dal and rice well 2-3 times with water. No need to soak the rice.
  • Add the washed rice and dal into the cooker.
  • Add water, salt, kasuri methi and mix well.
  • Add ghee and mix well.
  • Close the lid and cook on medium heat until 2 whistles.
  • Nilanga rice is all ready.
  • You can have this rice as it is with slice of lemon, & ghee.
  • Can be served with salad too.
